Sound Wave
Covering sounds from South Africa to Malaysia to the Philippines, and then right back on home soil in Arnhem Land, PORTSIDE ISSUE THREE is the perfect companion when reading through our third issue. Curated by Centre for Stories’ Claudia Mancini, this playlist is just a taste of the stunning variety of music that can be found from coast to coast:
“This playlist for Issue Three of Portside Review features a mix of genres–ambient, downtempo, pop (always), new age (whatever that means), a little bit of jazz. In terms of geography, the focus is primarily on South/Southeast Asia. Highlights for me include “Di Sisi Daku” from Sheila Majid, a Malaysian pop singer who has been making music since the 80s, and “White Cockatoo”, which is taken off an incredible release from Waak Waak Djungi, a group of Yolngu musicians from northeastern Arnhem Land. This playlist is a bit of a slow burn, perfect for a big walk through the city or the park, or lounging about on a Sunday (I’ll be listening from my hammock). I hope you listen, enjoy, and perhaps even set off on your own journey down the vast rabbit hole of music from the Indian Ocean.”
