Where Daisies Go to Bloom

Photo series by Menty Jamir

I am quietly and loudly drawn to nature and how it encapsulates everything within and around it. It has been my greatest inspiration, my muse. The parks, as I view from my tinted eyes, a place where everything and everyone can coexist without the need to be anything else. Having spent my entire childhood in the hills and amidst nature, I turned to the many parks in Delhi while looking to heal, and make sense of anything at all. It was an escape from life itself.

I’d often go to the parks and walk for hours, immersing myself in the warm solitude it offers. I wasn’t looking to make anything out of the visits over the years, yet the only thing that helped me release my inhibitions and be free was photography. So I reacted to everything happening around me in the park while also unconsciously allowing myself to find a way back to myself. I’ve witnessed profound human emotions in this most unlikely setting, which has often acted as a catharsis for my emotions too.

Menty Jamir is an independent Naga visual artist based out of New Delhi. She began photography out of curiosity while pursuing her Masters degree in Marketing and Finance.

The photographic process stayed with her as a tender reminder of who she is and the need to tell her own stories. Menty works on long-term personal projects besides being a part of 8:30, a women artists collective in India. In her spare time, she can be found taking long walks in the park, mothering her house plants, and brewing kombucha.
