Two Interviews with WA Comic Artists

The Perth Comic Arts Festival (PCAF) is a volunteer run not-for-profit organisation with a passion for the comics community in Western Australia. Beginning in 2019, they have since held a free annual creator-focused event to share their love for sequential storytelling in an accessible, all-ages way!

For this series, we interviewed two Western Australian based comic artists, both of whom participated with PCAF this year, Chris Wood and Aśka, and heard more about their own personal journeys navigating the comic scene in Boorloo and beyond. They look in towards their work and untangle their cultural roots and connections bound into their creations. Their responses brim with the magic and endless possibilities the medium of comics possess!

  • Interview with Chris Wood

The first time I felt I belonged was amongst other comic makers in Perth. Now I’m grateful for the journey I’ve been on to reconnect with my Aboriginal culture and roots.

  • Interview with Aśka

In a way, this might be another reason that attracts me to WA so much. In a land as vast and wild as this, I could be anyone!
