I love you

Priya Kahlon

I love you

I. Three words
meant to carry the
weight of my feelings
in their letters
to explain how I
find comfort in the
way you leave
tea bags in the
kitchen sink or
never replace the
toilet rolls on the
holder

II. Love does not describe
how a piece of me
became lost each time
the waves took over
and I confused the words
leaving you with
loving you

III. Love leaves cotton
in my mouth
and memories of
Shah Rukh Khan
serenading Kajol in
the rooh afza films of
yesterday

IV. Love with you
is like no other
but are whispers
from the clouds
that I can only hear
with my eyes
closed

V. The love before me
is not soft but jagged
tempts to cut me
open if I bite too
hard so that I may
spill

VI. This love holds me
when I will not be held
but rage against
the breaking sea
it finds me
